1st Persuasive essay instructions

Must be a minimum of 700 words; indent paragraphs, and double space. Your thesis sentence should include your position on the issue, and you must underline it. Do not use such phrases as “I think, I feel, I believe.” Do not use 2nd person pronouns (you, your, yourself), and do not use contractions (can’t, don’t, haven’t, hasn’t). You may document references to your sources by paraphrasing, summarizing, and quoting. I am requiring that you use two sources for this particular assignment to help prove your position on the issue. See the MLA style of documentation from the Resource list above and the example of a paper to follow.

In the heading of your paper include your name, date, course, and title of the assignment to the left of your margin. Type your assignment in a Microsoft Word document. Indent each paragraph, double space, 12-inch font, times new roman style. Save your file in Microsoft Word and submit as an attachment file.

Click on “Add submission” below > next, upload the file by clicking on “add,” “choose file,” “open,” “upload this file;” complete and follow the final prompts, and add a submission.

Your grade will be based upon the thoroughness, accuracy, and insightful responses; also, your use of correct spelling, grammar, and correct sentence and paragraph format will be evaluated (ALWAYS spell check your responses), and/or use of outside sources, and the use of MLA style.

Examples: Using sources MLA style
MLA format follows the author-page method of in-text citation. This means that the author’s last name and the page number(s) from which the quotation or paraphrase is taken must appear in the text, and a complete reference should appear on your Works Cited page.

The in-text citation is a brief reference within your text that indicates the source you consulted. It should properly attribute any ideas, paraphrases, or direct quotations to your source, and should direct readers to the entry in the Works Cited list. For the most part, an in-text citation is the author’s name and the page number (or just the page number, if the author is named in the sentence) in parentheses:

EXAMPLES In-text citation

According to Edward W. Bailey, imperialism is defined by “the practice, the theory, and the attitudes of a dominating metropolitan center ruling a distant territory” (9).
