Assessment Overview.

Students should where possible conduct a research project in the hospitality/tourism industry in groups of no more than 3. If they can mount a convincing case, students can do the project individually at their workplace. They must provide a letter from their employer permitting the research to be conducted at the workplace. If they are unable to complete an industry based project they could survey the other students at HKUE on a topic, after consultation with their lecturer.

Students must design and implement a questionnaire/survey of no more than 20 questions to give to respondents. They must analyse the data both qualitatively and quantitatively. It is not a serious stats based subject so the quantitative analysis need only include basic statistical interpretation e.g mean, median, mode and standard deviation (of ages of respondents or other variable).

Students should be given time in the first class to discuss what their research project might be. A decision on the project should be made by the third class at the very latest. Students should be advised that to complete a research project in fewer than 10 weeks would be very difficult.
