1. Introduction
Describe why you are sending this report to the CEO, outline the news story, identify your sources, and introduce your report. There are many ways to go about this, and here are just two examples
Example 1. This report responds to your request for a briefing about news story by Smith about XYZ, which appeared in the Daily Spectacle on 1 July 2017 (www.dailyspectacle.com). This news story highlighted a problem with ABC in our organisation. This report will briefly describe the key elements of the news story in section 2. In Section 3, the report identifies the HR issues raised, drawing on the Stone textbook (identify which chapters) and peer-reviewed articles related to (list the topics of articles). The final section of the report will provide recommendations drawing on the discussion and evidence in Section 2, and a conclusion. In the report, my argument is that we should …..
Example 2. As a proactive HR Director, I am writing to alert you to a recent news report by Smith about XYZ that appeared in the Daily Spectacle on 1 July 2017 (www.dailyspectacle.com) and that has implications (an exciting opportunity, a risk to be avoided etc) for our organisation. The report will briefly describe the key elements of the news story in section 2. 2. Brief description of news story
Tell the CEO just enough about the news story to identify the issues/problem/opportunity, as well as the source of the story, and a brief overview of the types off issues it raises
3. HR Issues raised in the news story
identify the human resource issues raised and discuss them in relation to theories or models from the course
Example: One key issue raised by this news story is xxxx. Stone discusses xxxx and says ……… Grass (2015) studied xxxx in three countries and agrees with Stone that …… However, Grass’s study may not apply to our organisation because (why not, are the other countries not relevant, is it in a different industry etc). Sky’s (2010) study of an organisation similar to ours found ….. Sky (2010) recommended that organisations should do …… Sun’s (2005) also found ….. but suggested that organisations could choose ……
Another key issue raised by this news story is yyy. Stone discusses xxxx and says ……… Moon (2015) studied yyy and agrees with Stone that …… Rock (2015) studied an organisation smilar to ours and recommends that ….. Several other authors studied yyy and came to similar conclusions. For example Brick (2011) found ….

Draw on the discussion above to make recommendations based on evidence, and a conclusion
